James Edward Smith (Norwich (Gran Bretagna), 01-12-1759 - Norwich (Gran Bretagna), 17-03- 1828). Acquistò l' imponente collezione naturalistica di Linneo, garantendone così l'unitarietà. Nel 1788 fondò la Linnean Society. Pubblicò una English Flora.
